Gloria Fowles, conhecida como Gloria Gaynor, ( 7 de
setembro de 1949) é uma cantora
norte-americana mais conhecida por seus sucessos da Era
Disco': Never
Can Say Goodbye (1973) e I Will Survive
(1979).
Nascida
em Nova Jersey, Gloria Gaynor era cantora da banda
jazz/pop Soul Satisfiers nos anos 60. Sua primeira
gravação solo de sucesso foi She'll Be Sorry/Let Me
Go Baby, em 1965.
A letra
de "I Will Survive" foi escrita do ponto de vista de uma
mulher, recém abandonada, dizendo ao ex-amante que pode cuidar
de si sozinha e que não precisa mais dele. A música tornou-se
um "hino" da emancipação sexy feminina, e também dos
gays
norte-americanos. Gaynor também gravou outros sucessos em
estilo disco',
como Honey Bee (1973), Casanova Brown (de 1975),
e I Am What I Am (1983). Mais recentemente, lançou
Last Night em 2000, Just Keep Thinking About You
em 2001, e I Never Knew em 2002.
